The Property was discovered in 1947. Inco drilled nine holes and completed a series of four trenches. In 1957, Jacobus Mining Corporation Limited acquired the property, completed geological and geophysical surveys and drilled 46 holes. The property was optioned to Chesterville Mines Limited in 1968. Chesterville completed nine vertical holes to acquire a 75% interest and in 1969 they also conducted electromagnetic, magnetic, geological and geochemical surveys. A.C.A. Howe International Limited estimated the indicated reserves to be 937,538 tons of 0.43% Cu and 0.41% Ni. In 1971 Chesterville Mines Ltd. outlined a deposit of 958,803 tons grading 0.43% Cu and 0.40% Ni. In 1993, SEG Explorations Inc. completed line cutting, geology, geophysics and 11,691 feet of diamond drilling . The Jacobus Cu-Ni deposit is hosted by a differentiated, layered gabbroic sill intruding massive, porphyritic flows of dacitic to rhyodacitic composition. Gabbro, quartz gabbro, metapyroxenite and anorthositic gabbro comprise the sill. The easternmost portion of the property is underlain by granodiorite of the Elmhirst Stock. Copper Nickel mineralization of 1 million tons at 0.94% (combined Cu-Ni) was reported by NWT Copper Mines Limited in 2003 (Canadian Mines Handbook 2003-2004 page 340). Recent work by Sage Gold has included diamond drilling by which extended the zone by another 500 feet. The deposit remains open on a down plunge. There have not been any assays reported for platinum group elements from the historical work. The following description is from the Ontario Geological Survey, OF5943, Beardmore-Geraldton District, 1995, page 18.
"The sulfide mineralogy consists of pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite and pentlandite which constitutes between 4 and 6% of the gabbro within the mineralized zone. This zone is cylindrical or lensoidal, dipping to the north at approximately 45 degrees, approximately parallel to the upper contact of the intrusion, and plunging westward at approximately 40 degrees. Drilling has shown that it varies between 6 and 45 metres, averaging about 12 metres in diameter, and extends for at least 300 metres in a N60W direction. The 1993 program was designed to extend the mineralized zone below the 1000 foot vertical level to 2000 feet. Diamond drilling by SEG Exploration Inc. has substantially expanded the mineral potential on the property beyond the 1972 reserve figures. Further diamond drilling and borehole geophysics (including PEM) is recommended to identify any extension of mineralized zone down plunge. Copper-nickel intersections from the 1993 drilling are wide, but further understanding of the shape of the mineralized, gabbro is required to fully evaluate this large, magmatic sulfide target."
